Gospel text
Jn 13:21-33.36-38
Reclining at table with his disciples, Jesus was deeply troubled and testified, “Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
Gospel's Commentary
Today, the figure of the traitor who will deliver Jesus Christ emerges. The charity of the Lord is admirable: He knows perfectly well who he is, and at dinner He discreetly denounces him, since the others have not even noticed it. Judas did get the message, though. It was an opportunity to rectify, but he did not. "It was night!” —Jesus knew what he was up against: he could have avoided it all. However, He came into our world to freely give Himself to us. Christ on the Cross: it is not a defeat; it is a voluntary sacrifice.
