Saturday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text Mt 25:14-30
Jesus told his disciples this parable: "A man going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one– to each according to his ability... Immediately the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five... But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we hear the “Parable of the Talents.” The underlying theme: making good use of time. The man who hid the money did not do so in order to steal it, but simply to give it back. That is the problem: “simply.” He is the image of someone who refuses to get involved!
—He did nothing bad and nothing good, yet he deserved to be called a “wicked and lazy servant.” Love is never neutral!
