Mercedarian, hero of charity. He freed slaves and spread the faith
August 31st: Memorial of Saint Raymond Nonnatus, Religious
Gospel text
Mt 25,31-40
«Whenever you did this to these little ones who are my brothers and sisters, you did it to me»
Gospel's Commentary
Today we remember St. Raymond Nonnatus (1204-1240). He is called unborn because he was not born like any other child, but was surgically taken out of his dead mother's womb. In Barcelona he joined the Order of Mercedarians. He traveled to Africa where he dedicated himself to the attention of the captives of the Berbers pirates trying to protect them and their faith from the dangers. He even had to endure prison himself and the torture of having his lips sealed for eight months with a padlock to prevent him from preaching. - Look around you: there is still a lot to do! Jesus is waiting for you there.
