Today Jesus once again speaks about the future. More specifically, about the future that awaits us as human beings. We are the only animals capable of reflecting on the future. And yet we are so “animal-like” that we often overlook that reflection, as though this life were eternal.
—The tragedy for the “foolish virgins” is that complete happiness—the eternal kind—depends on how we make use of our time: they fell asleep!... and did not arrive in time.
