“The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them, but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps..."
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus once again speaks about the future. More specifically, about the future that awaits us as human beings. We are the only animals capable of reflecting on the future. And yet we are so “animal-like” that we often overlook that reflection, as though this life were eternal. —The tragedy for the “foolish virgins” is that complete happiness—the eternal kind—depends on how we make use of our time: they fell asleep!... and did not arrive in time.
