“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.”
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus makes a striking statement: God—who is our God—wants to be our “servant.” Let us ask ourselves: in the world of religions, is there any other religion that believes in a “servant-God”? No, absolutely not. Such boldness is unique to Christianity.
—And as if that were not enough, for the Christian faith the “servant-God” is nothing new. In fact, the prophecy of Isaiah (about 600 years before Christ) devotes considerable space—especially chapter 53—to the “Suffering Servant of Yahweh”: it referred to the Passion of Jesus Christ. Did you know that?
