New wine, new wineskins

New wine, new wineskins
Friday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 5:33-39
Jesus told them a parable. “No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak."
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus Christ, with the wisdom of a good teacher, warns us against the danger of interior ease. Sometimes we get used to just "muddling through", with a routine, without risking anything ("I already go to Mass", "I already do what I should"...). But we ought to also renew ourselves in our spiritual life! —Life changes and what used to stimulate my soul years ago, maybe, now dulls it. On your wedding day, are you going to "don" what you wore the day of your First Communion? Of course not. Then, before God, why do you behave as a child - even less - and not as a man?
