Gospel text
Mk 1:7-11
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."
Gospel's Commentary
Today we are witnessing a very solemn scene: Jesus is receiving the Baptism! With this action, He was instituting the Christian baptism while highlighting the importance of this Sacrament of the New Covenant. —To resurrect with Christ we must live His Passion. God makes it easy: with our Baptism we participate in the passion of Jesus "hands down". What else can we ask for?
