Gospel's Commentary
Today the Gospel tells us how, finally, Elizabeth gave birth to her son. The family members said he had to be called like his father Zechariah, but the Archangel Gabriel had told Zechariah that he had to name his son John. Zechariah was still not able to speak because the Archangel had left him mute, for he doubted Zechariah’s words. -Now Jesus’ "precursor" is born. In the circumcision rite they gave him the name of John. And Zechariah recovers his voice! With that voice he will intone the goodness of God. You too!
