The Magnificat of Mary: "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord"

Today we are impressed by the Virgin’s reaction to the praise of her cousin Elizabeth. Mary replies with a declaration that has already become a traditional canticle, called "Magnificat". She is not afraid of God, and this is why she proclaims the greatness of God. She praises the Lord with gratitude and joy by recalling the many benefits God has granted to Israel, for centuries. -Do you know why Herod was afraid of Jesus? Because he did not pray! And, therefore, he could not understand God’s infinite goodness.
