"And the master commended that dishonest steward for acting prudently."
Gospel's Commentary
Today the Master leaves us puzzled… He seems to approve of a "get-rich-quick culture": favor after favor among selfish crooks who think only of their own benefit, without caring about the hardship suffered by so many others. That is not it! It is not about becoming "friends of money," but about putting our professional reputation at the service of others. The Christian is not called to be a "lifeless fool." At work, in society, in sports… God demands that we strive for excellence. Otherwise, how could we move hearts?
—Saint Paul made use of the prestige and rights of his "Roman citizenship." So am I supposed to go through life like a "country bumpkin"? Be careful: in Heaven there is no room for "well-meaning fools"!
