So Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I AM."
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus announces once again His death on the Cross. He does it in a profound manner: He will be there, "high" on the Cross, where we shall find out that "Jesus Is" (God). What does “I Am” mean? It is a very peculiar name! It is the very name of God. When Moses asked God what His name was, the response was: 'I Am'. Now Christ - from the Cross - applies to Himself the very name of God.
—“If you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.” Jesus does not condemn anyone, but who does not listen to Him remains lost in the dark.
