Gospel text
Mk 2:13-17
As he passed by, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting at the customs post. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.” And he got up and followed Jesus.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we are filled with hope. Nothing is impossible to God. There we can see the would-be St. Matthew, the apostle and the evangelist. There he is, enriching himself by collecting the taxes from the people (and possibly more that the simply just). And Christ manages to get Matthew unhooked from that easy and cozy lifestyle by way of his taking advantage of the humble people. It is difficult to let go from the spinning wheel of a bourgeoisie life. - And now, you marvel about this!, he only had to say “follow me”. Is that not incredible! - If we are with Jesus everything is possible (even when He will not spare us of the sweat of our brow).
