Parable of the mines: let us take advantage of the gifts received in this life

Parable of the mines: let us take advantage of the gifts received in this life
Wednesday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 19:11-28
“A nobleman went off to a distant country to obtain the kingship for himself and then to return. He called ten of his servants and gave them ten gold coins and told them, ‘Engage in trade with these until I return.’"
Gospel's Commentary
Today, with the "Parable of the pounds", the Master moves us to make the most of the time and the gifts we have received in life. First of all, we should recognize our debt to God (and to so many people). Time in particular - a great gift - is given to us by God: we don’t produce time ourselves. It is time to be used in our freedom (another great gift!). Wasting time is leaving personal freedom battered. And what’s worse: the one who wastes time is running the risk of killing his own eternity. - “Put this money to work until I get back.” Do not hesitate: He will return!
