Jesus was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath. And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect. When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, “Woman, you are set free of your infirmity.” He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we rejoice with the Lord: what a beautiful miracle! That good woman, bent over for 18 years, has now been “straightened” by Jesus in a single moment. How wonderful! Jesus is God, and God has come into our world. Everyone is happy!
—Everyone? No! There was the usual “killjoy”: “the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath.” Let go of your hang-ups and stop making life difficult for your brothers and sisters!
