To be brothers of Jesus we must listen to and fulfill the Word of God

To be brothers of Jesus we must listen to and fulfill the Word of God
Tuesday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 8:19-21
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it.”
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus’ words have a long history behind them. In ancient times, love of God was centered on animal sacrifices. This was only a shadow of true worship. God does not need animals, nor can the blood of animals take away sins. How often do we make “sacrifices” that turn out not to be what my parents or brothers and sisters need? Nor are they what God expects, because they are “sacrifices” that “sacrifice” others—that is, make life harder for them. —Do you really want to honor God? Conform yourself to His will. Where is His will? In His Word… and in your prayer. Everyone will benefit! And you will become a brother—or even a “mother”—of Jesus!
