Parables of Jesus: The faithful and wise servant

Parables of Jesus: The faithful and wise servant
Thursday of the Twenty-first Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Mt 24:42-51
Jesus said to his disciples: “Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come... So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come."
Gospel's Commentary
Today the Lord speaks to us about something we tend not to think about… We often ask ourselves: what do I want? And yet it is more fundamental to ask: what am I living for? What is my destination? Let us not fall asleep! Let us not say, “My master is delayed,” because for everyone the Lord eventually comes. —The “weeping and grinding of teeth” represents the danger of falling asleep and arriving too late. In a world far from God and therefore far from love, one feels the cold, to the point of “grinding one’s teeth.”
