December 27th: Feast of Saint John, Apostle and evangelist
Gospel text
Jn 20:2-8
Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we pay St John our homage. He was the youngest of the Apostles and writer of the last of the written Gospels. He was there, at the foot of the Cross standing by the Mother of Jesus. There, somehow, John went through his own “martyrdom”. God granted him to be one of the first witnesses of the Risen Christ. When he saw the empty tomb, he immediately “believed”. -He persevered at the foot of the Cross; he ran towards the Sepulchre… This is how one finds Jesus!
