Zechariah his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying: “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; for he has come to his people and set them free."
Gospel's Commentary
Today, the protagonist is Zechariah. When giving his son the name of John, God returns his voice. Now Zechariah will waste no more time doubting God’s powers and he quickly begins to praise God with a prayer called "Benedictus" ("blessed").
- Zechariah’s prayer looks very much like the "Magnificat" the Virgin had prayed. We have to pay attention to St. Mary and learn from Her, as Zechariah did!
