Thursday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text Lk 21:20-28
Jesus said to his disciples: “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that its desolation is at hand. Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains..."
Gospel's Commentary
Today we hear two "lessons". The first is part of history: the Christians remembered the words of the Lord and, indeed, when the Roman troops besieged Jerusalem, there was no longer any disciple in the city ... “These days are the time of punishment when all the Scriptures are fulfilled”: it was fulfilled!
Second lesson: conversion ("flee to the mountains"), that is, reject evil and climb the mountain of holiness.
- “But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect...” The terrible destruction of Jerusalem was another occasion for the spread of the Gospel ... For the children of God, "every cloud has a silver lining."
