What matters is having a clean heart; not the external appearance

Lk 11:37-41
After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal.
Gospel's Commentary
Today the Master, who has no fixations, is eating with a Pharisee. Jesus is everyone's friend. And as a good friend, he does not remain silent and reveals the vices: " You Pharisees, you clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside yourselves you are full of greed and evil." - "This is still valid for us. Us?, Indeed! Here are some of our favorite “hobbies”: "the politically correct", "to play sneaky tricks" ... The way things are done regardless of the meaning. Sound familiar?
