Jesus and the Roman centurion: the faith of the centurion saves his servant

Jesus and the Roman centurion: the faith of the centurion saves his servant
Monday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 7:1-10
Jesus... entered Capernaum. A centurion there had a slave who was ill and about to die, and he was valuable to him.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we are impressed by the figure of this Roman officer. A man as God intended! And he was "heathen" (he wasn’t a descendant from Abraham). We do not know if he knew the Sacred Scripture ... but he loved the people. He had so much fame as a righteous man that even the Jews themselves say to Jesus: «He deserves this of you, for he loves our people and even built a synagogue for us». -And Jesus deserved a precious tribute: «I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith». And I, a Christian, what would they say about me?
