Gospel text
Lk 9:43b-45
But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we read “all were amazed at everything Jesus did”. But they did not accept Christ's announcement of His Passion. Simon Peter did not understand those words either. And we haven’t changed! We are still slaves to success! We like to succeed ... but without putting too much effort. That is: we like to triumph simply because triumph “tastes good". But we don’t want to know anything about “bad taste” (sacrifice). Freedom without commitment, free love (with divorce), live quietly (even with abortion, if it were the most "moderate" solution) ... -Jesus without Cross ... A "god-clown", a "god-joker", a "god" custom-made ... There is no trace of eternity here. A "god" like that has an expiration date.
