Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we receive the Virgin at Zechariah and Elizabeth’s home. Just a short time before (perhaps 3 or 5 days) the Virgin Mary had received and accepted the announcement of the Archangel Gabriel. And at that very moment she became pregnant with Jesus. And the first thing she does is to go and help Elizabeth, regardless of her own comfort.
—At Elizabeth's home, St. John and Jesus chat through their respective mothers. What a nice dialogue! What a great mystery! What we would have missed if Mary had decided to stay at home!
