"When you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
Gospel's Commentary
Today these words of Jesus may seem absurd to us. What kind of banquet is that? Besides, if I organize a banquet, it is so that I can enjoy it now, not in eternal life… And yet the words of Jesus Christ are wise: do we deserve the banquet of the Eucharist? What kind of "friend" would I be if I only did "self-interested" favors, or only when they could be returned? God is not like that!
—All of us, without exception, are very small before God. Fortunately, His House is especially open to the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind… If it were not, could I enter?
