Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (C)
Gospel text
Lk 17:5-10
"Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'"
Gospel's Commentary
Today we receive a recommendation from Jesus that is not "politically correct." Because often, what the “modern man” has that is “modern” is his arrogance. Too often we displace God by putting ourselves in his place. We are never as useless as when we irreverently usurp the face of God! - It is very good for us to repeat "we are useless servants." That's pretty much the truth! And then, from the recognition of our uselessness, we will understand the need to ask the Lord: "Increase our faith."
