Parables of Jesus: The unmerciful servant. The need to forgive

Parables of Jesus: The unmerciful servant. The need to forgive
Thursday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Mt 18:21—19:1
"You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?"
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus once again insists on forgiveness. It is a fundamental issue! Our peace depends on it! Humanly speaking, we cannot live without forgiving. Refusing forgiveness to someone who apologizes to me is like forcing that person to remain in debt to me; it is like keeping that person enslaved. —And from the supernatural point of view, that is, from God’s perspective, it is completely absurd not to forgive our brothers and sisters when God has forgiven me infinitely more.
