Tuesday of the Third Week of Lent
Gospel text
Mt 18:21-35
Peter approached Jesus and asked him, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?”
Gospel's Commentary
Today things become clear: we must always forgive ("seventy times seven"). Try to multiply 7x7 by about 70 times: you won't be able to! God can (perhaps that's why He has not grown tired, nor will He ever tire of us). If God gives you a big heart, it will be easier for you to forgive. Let us learn to excuse, as we owe so much to God! The end of today's parable is tragic: the heavenly Father will hand us over to the executioner "unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart." Whoever does not forgive becomes unable to ask for and receive forgiveness! Tragic!
