Jesus expels the merchants from the Temple: the temples are houses of prayer

Jesus expels the merchants from the Temple: the temples are houses of prayer
Friday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 19:45-48
Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.”
Gospel's Commentary
Today this serious warning from Jesus is a most timely one. The warning is still valid! In many areas of western society the sense of the sacred has weakened. In some places, weddings (or funerals, or First Communions) are more like a stadium (or a convention hall) than a temple. The less we pray, the more we talk! -When Jesus became displeased in the Temple (2,000 years ago), He wasn’t yet present through the Eucharist. Now He is. Imagine what a disappointment for Him!
