Jesus warns that this world will pass away and we will all be judged on love
Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)
Gospel text
Mk 13:24-32
"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. "But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."
Gospel's Commentary
Today, Jesus Christ is announcing the End of Time and the Last Judgment. The language style is "apocalyptic": "The sun will grow dark, the moon will not give its light...". The Lord is talking about big events and, for that, he uses great and spectacular images. Is this all going to happen? No and yes! "No" regarding how this will happen; "Yes" regarding what is going to happen. The fundamental thing is the "what"; the "how" simply indicates the importance of what will happen. So what is going to happen? This world will pass away and we will be judged. -Is this that terrible? Not at all, in fact this is expected. The angels themselves will accompany us before Jesus of "great power and glory" ... And we will be examined by Love ... Exciting!
