On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. In front of him there was a man suffering from dropsy. Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking, “Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?”
Gospel's Commentary
Today the absurd controversy returns. It is the Sabbath: everyone is watching! What will Jesus do? For the moment, He asks a question… It is as though He were saying: is it lawful to love on the Sabbath or not? Is it lawful to help others on the Sabbath or not?...
—Some who considered themselves “very religious” had doubts: “they remained silent.” What do you say? The answer is obvious! But we must be consistent: on Sunday, less “partying” and more God, more family, more helping, more…
