Jesus responds to the rejection of men with love and mercy

Jesus responds to the rejection of men with love and mercy
Tuesday of the Twenty-sixth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Lk 9:51-56
When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus is on His way to Jerusalem and would like to rest in a village in the region of Samaria. However, the inhabitants reject Him because they did not want to welcome Jews. James and John become “furious”: they would like to destroy those people. But Jesus Christ rebukes that “brave” reaction. He did not come to condemn, but to save! —Jesus did not destroy those people; He did not even complain. But He had no choice but to “keep going.” God never rejects me, but… how many times have I forced Him to pass me by?
