As He reached the gate of the town, a dead man was being carried out. He was the only son of his mother and she was a widow (...). On seeing her, the Lord had pity on her and said, «Don't cry».
Gospel's Commentary
Today we admire the example of a great mother and wife: Monica (332-387). She is the mother of the future St. Augustine who made her suffer very much in his youth, due to his conduct distant from the Christian faith. Monica has gone down in history as a mother who cried very much begging for the conversion of her rebellious son. After many unforeseen events Augustine met through his mother St. Ambrose, the Bishop of Milan, who’s preaching lead to his baptism.
- We men sometimes laugh at the tears of a mothers, but Jesus Christ never overlooks them.
