At that time Jesus said in reply, «I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike».
Gospel's Commentary
Today, we celebrate the feast of Saint Bede the Venerable, an English monk who lived between the 7th and 8th centuries (672-735). From the age of seven, he lived in a monastery, where he spent his life praying, studying, and teaching. He loved learning new things and writing books to help others know God. His most famous book is called “Ecclesiastical History of the English People”, and it tells how Christianity came to England. Although he never traveled, his writings were read all over Europe. He was very wise but also very humble; that’s why the Church called him “the Venerable” and later declared him a Doctor of the Church. He died singing the “Gloria” to God, in great peace.
—Saint Bede teaches us that studying, praying, and doing our work well with love is also a way to serve God.
