January 24th: Memorial of Saint Francis de Sales, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Gospel text Mt 11:25-30
At that time Jesus said in reply, "...Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest."
Gospel's Commentary
Today we celebrate a saint (1567-1622) who was a great teacher of souls: he was cheerful and optimistic, he had a lot of patience, he cared a lot for people and knew how to lead them to God. In 1602 he was consecrated as Bishop of Geneva. He met Saint Jane Frances de Chantal, with whom he founded the Order of the Visitation of Saint Mary. St. Francis de Sales also wrote a book that became very famous: "Introduction to the Devout Life."
- St. Francis was one of the first spiritual authors to promote holiness by following Jesus anywhere in the world and from ordinary life: "Be sure that wheresoever our lot is cast we may and must aim at the perfect life"
