Gospel text
Mt 5:13-16
“You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."
Gospel's Commentary
Today, the Master tells us all – not only the Apostles - that we are the salt of the Earth. Rock salt has much grit (1); this is why it is stored in small bags (2), which are put in the casserole (3). But if they do not improve the flavor, they are no good (4): and are thrown away (5), to be crushed by people (6). God’s children must transmit the "flavor" of the happiness of this life and the "light" of the road that leads to the eternal joy. —How can we do that? By offering friendship, by being friendly, by always smiling, by helping others, by lending things... — Lord, make it happen that all Christians are always like good salt, that gives taste and preserve it from corruption.
