The Gerasene demoniac

The Gerasene demoniac
Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel text
Mk 5:1-20
“Go home to your family and announce to them all that the Lord in his pity has done for you.”
Gospel's Commentary
Today we can see Jesus landing in Gerasa. A man possessed by a diabolical spirit named “Legion” runs into Him. What a terrible drama! That miserable man was not himself, he was possessed by demons. The Devil speaks out of his mouth: “What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us… if you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs”. Jesus allows that to happen: He said to them, "’Go!’ So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water”. Here you have it!: the Devils desire is total destruction. Fortunately the mercy of God prevents him from doing that. - The man was cured and wanted to remain with Jesus. But his place was with his family: the Lord sent him back there… Always in the presence of God!
