The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (C)
Gospel text Lk 23:35-43
The rulers sneered at Jesus and said, "He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Christ of God." Even the soldiers jeered at him... they called out, "If you are King of the Jews, save yourself."
Gospel's Commentary
Today, on the Cross, Jesus is "equal" to God, which is Love. We can recognize his "divine royalty." Jesus gives us the "life" because he gives us God. One of the criminals, aware of his sins, opens up to the truth and implores to the "King of the Jews": "Jesus, remember me." The "good thief" immediately receives forgiveness and the joy of entering the Kingdom of Christ.
—Jesus, from the throne of the Cross, welcomes all men with infinite mercy.
