Jesus and the Roman centurion: the faith of the centurion saves his servant

Today we are deeply impressed by the figure of this Roman officer. What a remarkable man! And yet he was a “pagan” (he was not a descendant of Abraham). We do not know whether he knew Sacred Scripture… but he loved people. He had such a reputation for being a just man that even the Jews themselves said to Jesus: “He deserves to have You do this for him, for he loves our nation and he built the synagogue for us.” —And from Jesus he received a beautiful compliment: “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.” And what could they say about me, a Christian?
