Gospel text
Mt 10:34—11:1
Jesus said to his Apostles: “Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth. I have come to bring not peace but the sword."
Gospel's Commentary
Today we hear several teachings from Jesus. They all have one aspect in common: the Lord is asking for a radical response. Is God exaggerating? Of course not! Jesus Christ is not a madman who ends up by dying on a cross because He is exaggerating. Love is never exaggerated and, on the other hand, it is always radical. Love does not leave anyone "indifferent". "Do you think it's possible to love without being "disheveled"? A sword against my comfort; peace for others! Then, why are you surprised to see Christ on the Cross?
