Jn 6,51-58
Jesus said to the Jewish crowds: «I am the living bread which has come from heaven; whoever eats of this bread will live forever (...)». The Jews were arguing among themselves, «How can this man give us flesh to eat?»... Jesus said to Jews: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever..." The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat? ...”
Gospel's Commentary
Today Jesus announces the most precious gift He is willing to give us: Himself, His own sacrificed Body and His Blood shed for our salvation. Only a great faith can be certain of those words from the Lord. Some Jews argued and distrusted them. But the historic fact is that Jesus Christ, at the Last Supper, said, "This is my Body ..."; "This is my Blood ...” Christ is God and He can do it! —"If He has said it, why should we hesitate?" We are not asked to understand the miracle, but to accept it!
