Jn 4:5-42
Jesus came to a town of Samaria called Sychar... Jesus, tired from his journey, sat down there at the well. It was about noon. A woman of Samaria came to draw water...
Gospel's Commentary
Today we are not before a parable, but before a “fortuitous" meeting: Jesus Christ and the Samaritan woman. The Jews were not on speaking terms with the Samaritans; teachers did not speak with women: but Jesus speaks with them all. And with that woman, He speaks with patience and kindness. Gradually, what was initially “fortuitous" becomes a conversion and an adhesion to God’s will. —-«' Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty '. » «He told her, “Go, call your husband, and come back”». God expects our conversion to appease our "thirst".
