The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesus to put him to death. When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many people followed him, and he cured them all.
Gospel's Commentary
Today we see how Jesus “triumphs” (“many followed Him”) in the midst of rejection. The Lord’s attitude is admirable: despite the pain and opposition, “He cured them all.” A paradox? Transforming evil into good: that is Redemption. About 700 years earlier, the prophet Isaiah had foretold that “He will not contend or cry out, nor will anyone hear His voice in the streets. A bruised reed He will not break…”
—At the supreme hour—on the Cross—we find the same response: while some insulted Him without ceasing, Jesus asked forgiveness for everyone and “healed” the one who asked Him for help (do you know who he was?).
